Every remote meeting app ships a floating window, and every one of them locks its size. You cannot drag the edge to make it smaller, cannot shrink it out of the way, cannot resize it at all. One size, for every situation.
So you share a slide deck, and the text in the mini window is too small to read. You want it smaller so it stops covering the shared content — no setting for that. Someone joins and the layout gets cramped at exactly the same size it always was. It isn’t that you missed a menu. It genuinely isn’t there.
Tencent Meeting: the floating mini window works, but only in a few preset sizes, with the aspect ratio locked to the call layout. You can’t shrink it to the corner and use it as a status light.
DingTalk: same story — the mini window has fixed dimensions and follows the main meeting’s layout. You can’t shrink just the video while keeping the controls.
Zoom: the Floating Window can be moved, and some versions let you drag its edge — but the range is limited, and the UI inside doesn’t reflow. The text stays just as small as before.
The shared flaw: these mini windows are designed for the call, not the content. Their goal is to free up screen space, not to let you read it.
PipNow doesn’t try to modify your meeting app’s mini window. It turns the meeting window itself into a floating mini window.
The upside is that it keeps the meeting app’s full interface: share controls, chat, participant list, layout switching — all still available, because this is a complete mirror of that window rather than a restricted video panel.
What that gives you:
The mechanics are covered in floating any window on macOS.
A locked mini-window size is a design assumption: the app expects you to keep it visible, to remind you to answer or to see faces. But real-world use is different — a mini window is a badge in the corner of your screen. Out of sight, glanced at occasionally, expanded only when needed.
Once you see it that way, resizability stops being a nice-to-have and becomes required. That’s one of the reasons PipNow exists.
If you’ve ever squinted at a shared deck through a fixed-size mini window, or wished it would get out of the way, PipNow gives that back.
